Growing threats to Israeli and Lebanese ports

Maritime security company Ambrey has raised concerns about the increasing risks faced by ships traveling in the Eastern Mediterranean due to the escalating standoff between Israel and Hezbollah. The conflict intensified earlier this month with the launch of thousands of drones across Lebanon, leading to a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah military positions. These actions have significantly heightened shipping security risks, especially for vessels heading to Israeli and Lebanese ports.

According to Ambrey’s analysis, the port of Haifa is at “increased risk” and may become a direct target for Hezbollah. Meanwhile, ports in Beirut and other Lebanese locations are assessed to be at “moderate risk,” with the potential for a naval blockade looming.

Ambrey analysts predict that Israel will continue its bombardment of Hezbollah targets. “Potential further escalation of Israeli airstrikes or a ground invasion is likely to provoke direct operations against the port of Haifa,” they stated.

The situation is further complicated by the possibility of simultaneous actions from other militant groups. Ambrey analysts warn that “simultaneous actions by Hamas, the Houthis, or Iraqi militants put Israel’s remaining ports (Ashdod, Ashkelon, Hadera, Eilat) at constant risk of collateral damage.”

In light of these heightened risks, Ambrey advises all vessels and personnel ashore to prepare for potential security incidents.
