The Hellenic Ports Association held its General Assembly in Santorini, during which it restructured its board following the departure of its outgoing President, Athanasios Liagos. The new President, Apostolos Kamarinakis, currently serves as CEO of the Elefsis Port Authority. The transition was confirmed unanimously by the members, in a meeting that underlined both procedural normality and strategic continuity.
Recognition for Athanasios Liagos
During his term, Mr. Liagos played a central role in shaping the Association’s profile within Greek and European maritime policymaking. He strengthened cooperation among member ports, supported initiatives tied to sustainability and the logistics chain, and enhanced the institutional presence of the Hellenic Ports Association.
In recognition of his contribution, Mr. Kamarinakis awarded him a commemorative plaque, while the General Assembly unanimously named him Honorary President of the Association.
Apostolos Kamarinakis takes office
Mr. Kamarinakis brings long-standing experience in transport, shipping, and logistics, having worked in senior roles across public and private sectors. At Elefsis Port, he has promoted infrastructure upgrades, environmental management, and investment strategies. He holds a civil engineering degree from the National Technical University of Athens and a postgraduate degree in port management.
In his statement to the Assembly, he pledged to maintain active dialogue among member ports: “The Hellenic Ports Association is a key institution for maritime policy. My goal is to listen, collaborate and address challenges.”

Under its new leadership, it is expected to maintain this role with a focus on long-term infrastructure planning and international engagement.
